December 2012 Secret Santa Project
HRS Educator April Atherton led a community service project with students at Roby Elementary School in Sheperdsville, KY. The event helped students understand that being a good citizen means interacting appropriately with other people and other living creatures. Students gathered after school for a short class about the necessity of mental stimulation for the rabbits, and after they created toys for the foster rabbits at our rescue. They also decorated gift bags and stuffed the bags with all the toys they made. Harvey House’s Ambassador, Mr. Honey Bunny, was present to give the toys his bunny stamp of approval.
August 2012 Veterinary Conference
Doctors Susan Brown and Barbara Heindenreich conducted a workshop on behavioral training during an AAV Conference held here in Louisville. The goal was to help veterinarians gain a better understanding of rabbit behavior and learn positive ways to interact with them to create less stress during routine exams. 24 of our foster rabbits participated in the workshop, and they did great! Even the kits learned how to follow the touch stick to do what the “trainer” was asking them to do.
